In order for dogs to bark, they must use a small tissue which is found on both sides of the larynx. This tissue must vibrate to make the characteristic sound of barking. The purpose of the debarking surgery is to remove this tissue. After such a surgery the dog will just be able to make whispery sounds. The bad part of this bark control method is that the dog’s larynx will grow back this important tissue and barking will return in a few months.

This bark control method is considered by most being inhumane and it is seldom used. A lot of people think how it would be to debark a human being and reject the idea of the debarking surgery. Added to this, the cost of such a surgery and the known inefficiency make dog owners buy bark collars for dogs.
